PROGRAMs AND INITIATIVES

Affordable HOusing
We have a commitment to fostering equitable housing solutions for residents of Roxbury. By actively pursuing city requests for proposals and partnering with local developers, the Highland Park Community Land Trust (HPCLT) strives to transform vacant land into sustainable, affordable housing options that meet the needs of the community. With a deep-rooted emphasis on collaboration and advocacy, these projects aim to provide safe and stable homes while empowering Highland Park residents to engage in the planning and development of their neighborhoods.
OPEN SPACES
The Community Open Spaces initiative at the Highland Park Community Land Trust aims to enhance the neighborhood’s natural environment and foster community engagement. Among sites for our immediate focus are 95R Thornton St (Thornton St Community Gardens and Haley House Farm) and the Cedar Juniper Natural Area. HPCLT seeks collaboration and continuity at 95R with a 99 year lease for Haley House and an Memorandum of Understanding with insurance coverage for the Gardeners.

OUR Stewardship
By empowering community members to be involved in the stewardship of these spaces, we promote environmental awareness and a sense of ownership among residents. This initiative celebrates Highland Park's unique character and aims to ensure that all community members enjoy equitable access to the benefits of open green spaces.

The Stewardship Programs of the Highland Park Community Land Trust focus on sustainable management of communal spaces, emphasizing resident involvement. These programs empower locals to maintain and enhance the neighborhood, fostering ownership and pride. HPCLT promotes conservation and revitalization of open spaces as welcoming environments while creating educational opportunities that connect residents to their local environment and encourage stewardship for future generations.

Our Aspiration
At 95R Thornton St (Thornton St Community Gardens and Haley House Farm) and the Cedar Juniper Natural Area, our aspirations center around cultivating sustainable agricultural practices and building community resilience. We envision transforming this site into a vibrant hub where local residents can engage in farming, learning, and cooperative initiatives that reinforce bonds within the Highland Park neighborhood. Our goal is to empower individuals through hands-on experiences, enhance food security, and promote environmental stewardship. Together, we aim to create a thriving ecosystem that celebrates our community's rich heritage while fostering a sustainable future.
