Our Mission

Founded in 2017 to meet the evolving needs of our community, the Highland Park Community Land Trust (HPCLT) is a unique, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to creating meaningful impact. We’re committed to inclusivity and accessibility, offering programs that welcome individuals from all backgrounds. Guided by a deep sense of responsibility, we work tirelessly to advance our mission, fostering a stronger, more connected community where everyone can thrive.

OUR GOALS

Win Competitive RFPs

Apply for and win city of Boston RFPs “For both open space and affordable housing projects. Our open space vision is collaboration with many stakeholders and abutters.  We will always seek to partner with black and brown housing developers.

GROW our NUMBERS

Increase to a minimum membership of 300 residents across all categories representing the diversity of Highland Park, as well as members beyond who augment our resources.

OBTAIN GRANTS and LOANS

Increase our financial capacity through grant writing and collaborations with lending institutions.

CONTINUE our OUTREACH

Keep working with Greater Boston CLT Network. 

CREATE a NATURAL OPEN AREA

Conclude the successful transfer of the Cedar-Juniper Natural Area from the Trustees of Reservations to HPCLT to become a revitalized community open space for the neighborhood to use.

CONTINUE our EVENTS

Continue co-sponsoring events with other neighborhood organizations.

HIRE an ORGANIZER

Hire a part-time staffer to organize outreach so that all residents of Highland Park understand the HPLCT and the benefits it offers. 

Our Board

The Highland Park Community Land Trust (HPCLT) is led by a committed Board of Directors, all of whom are Highland Park residents known for their leadership and skills. They guide strategic decisions, ensuring initiatives meet the Highland Park community's needs. Each member prioritizes sustainable development, affordable housing, and community empowerment, driving our mission for a vibrant, inclusive neighborhood. CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS

  • Paige Brooks-Cook – Educator with a strong interest in affordable housing for renters.

  • Verdaya Mitchell Brown – Retired educator, dedicated to community space and housing.

  • Dr. Angela Paige & Brother Joe Cook – Founders of Paige Academy, advocates for education.

  • Ernest (Randy) Coston – Longtime resident, community garden founder.

  • Jon Ellertson – A resident since 1967, a leader in community gardening, the HPNC and HPPRC

  • Jessica Leete – Landscape architect focused on sustainable communities.

  • Maggie Levine – Boston Public Library children's librarian and affordable housing resident.

  • Mark Martinez – Housing attorney committed to tenant rights.

  • Evan Pankey – Product manager with healthcare expertise, Highland Park resident since 2017.

  • Mandy Townsend – Workforce development leader and neighborhood gardener.

  • Scotland Willis – Developer and Highland Park community advocate.

  • Judy Powers – Former Maine legislator with extensive public service experience.
